There's a lot of demos this time around, so I'm going to try and experiment with lying to myself and saying I'll only spend 15 minutes per game. This will almost certainly slip but at least I can pretend the streams will only be four hours long.

Yeah, releasing "sequels" and pulling the previous games from the internet also seems like a valid tactic. They would have to prove that this is the same product, which, in the age of rampant clones and asset flips might actually be hard.

seconding this, and this is coming from someone who's only used linux for like 10 years or so now
For most things I still go to vim which I have set up exactly how I want it, but when things get too complicated for that, I don't hesitate to use vs code.
Also I don't bother at all with vim's multiple panes/windows whatever, just a new vim in a new terminal, which works great with i3wm, a tiling WM. If I want a bunch of things open at once, this is where vim takes the lead over vs code again, especially with i3's tabbed/horiz/vert options.

This, today I baked two loaves of bread (because baking two is only marginally more work than just baking one): ingredients being flour, water, salt, yeast. Using broth for water is pro tier but I didn't have any. Also adding cheap herbs ones you grow yourself, like chopped green onion.

I also put a bunch of dried pinto/black beans in a pot with some herbs and spices and water, to soak overnight, which I will boil and turn into way more refried beans than I need. Like every meal for two weeks, so I'll probably freeze a good amount of them.

These are extra good things to do yourself because most of the time is just letting them do their thing. Total bread work was like 10 min, about 1.5-2 hrs for it to raise but not much actual work. "No knead" bread is even easier, but you need a dutch oven.

Wasted a lot of the time the past couple days with terrain stuff. It's been pretty frustrating, partially because I don't really even know what I want. In theory I want to keep things as simple as possible so as to make the game easier/cheaper to work on, but then I keep wasting time doing stuff like pic related. It's such a huge waste of time that it's convinced me to just stick with the memepoly geometry tile terrain for the foreseeable future.

To get back into the groove of doing actual work, I've got the rudimentary targeting system, as well as the dummy targets, from the prototype up and running in the real game. The guns have also been moved to the new game, along with being put on the MiG-19, but I'm in the middle of refactoring controls to take all the player input out of the aircraft. I can't fire the guns until I get about halfway through this input stuff. I'd also like to move input to Rewired soon for both future proofing and much more robust input support.

>entirely vector
If you wanted to do something really gimmicky like that, I feel the whole game would need to be built around that. I wouldn't want to do that for this game because it wouldn't fit, however I do think there's potential for doing something that looks like a vector ACMI tape, but playable. Have very simplified graphics and gameplay to fit the style. It'd be best as a little standalone minigame. It'd probably be the Geometry Wars to the real game's Project Gotham too, because that's actually a really cool idea with a distinctive style.

I've been trying to figure out how to make a pixel platformer in Unity for a while, but I always get the vaguest answers on how to go about it. I've been linked to Sebastian Lague's series on making a Raycasting system, but I hear updating transforms is bad form since it fucks up physics calls. I've heard using AddForce is also the worst way to go about trying to make a retro platformer as well because it feels too floaty, which I agree, you have to fuck with your settings for a good 2 days to get something that feels like you have something that's not. I've watched Unity's official Pixel Platformer tutorial series but it feels like they've made it overly complicated and the system they built is actually mildly broke any fucking way. Hell, the guy giving the tutorial admits to not really knowing what he's doing near the end of it. So how the fuck do you actually make something that's not garbage in Unity?

i feel like every day i don't feel enticed to do more solo game dev because it's fun, interesting or for money. it's become more like an obsession or a coping mechanism. i play games made by other people and i can immediately identify and quantify design flaws in the game's design, and i'm powerless to do anything about them. their ideas are often fine, but they've just subtly put in wrong values in their variables, which cause a collapse in the game's design. it's infuriating. i want to fix these games, but i can't. the only escape is my own game design project, and no matter how shitty it looks, how limited its design scope is, at least i can tinker with every variable and scrap whatever doesn't work until only the good remains. but with other games, i'm forced to just endure whatever shit they put in the game.

All of which some of the old drawings had. I know SOUL is a meme, but this is literally going from soulful to soulless. No actual increase in quality, just a homogenization of content.

the TRUE power of art school

The point is that there were no improvements.

Ah yes, the ones on the right add a few that are looking up at a 3/4 view instead of just a regular 3/4 view. How foolish of me to miss that.

1. you can't into art aesthetic
2. you can't into basic english comprehension
3. refusal to even believe that you could be wrong

Pointing out that the left is generic anime faces implies that the right is not generic anime faces. You are backpedaling.

The right also isn't better, it's a lateral change. Every part of the technique on the right can be seen on the left (except that one perspective), with the exception of leaving heavy unerased construction shapes on everything.
